Frequently Asked Questions
- What is an EPP code?
An EPP code is the Domain Authorization Code (also referred to as an Auth Code or Domain’s secret) provides an extra level of security for the domain name registration. The authorization code is unique for each domain name and is assigned by the registrar at the time the domain name is registered. It is needed when you would like to transfer domain from one registrar to another.
EPP authentication code will be required for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .mobi, .asia, .ca, .cc, .co, .cn, .de, .in, .me, .tv, .us and .ws domain transfers.
- If I bought a name through one company, am I allowed to switch to a different company?
Yes. All ICANN-accredited registrars, require that registered name holders must be able to transfer their domain name registrations between registrars. You must wait 60 days after the initial registration or any previous transfers to initiate a transfer.
- How do I transfer my domain name to Virtual Hosting Company?
Transferring your domain to Virtual Hosting Company is easy. You can do so through either of the two methods below:
- Visit our Domain Transfer Order Page at https://www.virt-host.com/billing/cart.php?a=add&domain=transfer. Make sure to have your EPP code (if applicable), and that your “Domain Lock’ is disabled. This will initiate a process that will require you to authorize the transfer (an e-mail sent to you on behalf of your current company, asking for permission to begin the process). After you’ve approved the transfer, it may take up to seven days to complete the process.
- Sign up for any of our Website Hosting Solutions, elect to ‘Trasnfer my Domain’, and follow the steps above. Again, be sure to have your EPP code (if applicable) and the ‘Domain Lock’ disabled.
