Security Enhancements for IRC and IRCd Solutions
Virtual Hosting Company is happy to announce a major security enhancement for our IRC and IRCd Solution clients. This enhancement will allow Clients to specify a specific IP or block of IP Addresses that can log in to their account. The formatting and placement of the file is simple and easy, and it can drastically improve the security each user can have on his or her account.
To utilize this new feature, create a file titled .allowed_ips with one IP or block per line. Formatting is either the exact ip (such as 192.168.0.1) or a block (192.168.0.*). Each line provides another address that can be used. Using the new enhancement is completely voluntary. Anyone not using it will merely have the same access they have now.
If you run into a problem with the new security system, or need help getting in if you lock yourself out, contact our Support Desk and we'll be happy to help.
We've got some more updates coming soon to our Server Provisioning Module to allow our Clients to easily access and manage their IP limitations, as they like. More details will roll out over the course of the next few weeks.
