Journey Server Relocation
Virtual Hosting Company is always evaluating options to provide the most efficient, stable, and reliable Hosting Solutions for our customers. Unfortunately, on August 13th, we experienced a significant outage that, honestly, should have never happened. While we've worked with the Data Center responsible for housing our servers, we've seen repeat issues over the past few weeks that have left our staff unable to continue to work towards a resolution. As such, we've made the decision to relocate our Website Hosting solutions from the Data Center located in Phoenix, AZ.
What We've Been Doing
We've been working in the background to make this happen, but the process takes some time to complete. We've successfully relocated some clients' data already, but have aligned to have the data for the Journey Server as part of our next wave of relocations. We've begun notifying clients on Journey today of this upcoming move.
How This Impacts You
If your website is presently hosted on the Journey Server, it is going to relocate as part of a 'Total Server Push', where we're taking every bit of data from Phoenix, AZ and pushing that data directly to a new location in Dallas, TX. This process is designed to streamline the process, expedite the relocation, and make things extremely easy for you, our customer. However, there are a few things that you need to be aware of in the process:
- This process is scheduled to occur during the time listed below.
- During the process, your site may drop offline briefly.
- The IP Address(es) associated with your hosting will be updated.
- The DNS Entries for your domain will be updated.
What You Need To Do
The only situation where you'll be directly impacted is if you have manual entries in your local 'hosts' file, are connecting directly to an IP address vs a hostname including your domain, or have external DNS entries for your site. If any of these are the case, please respond to the e-mail sent out today as soon as possible so that we may coordinate with you for updates, or to adjust the schedule for your specific domain. Otherwise, as the process moves forward, you should see no negative impact.
What You Need To Know
The most important item on this list is the direct impact this will have on your website hosting package. Our Team will be handling this process completely. We're scheduling this during 'After-Hours' times to avoid impact to active customer development, as well as to limit impact to non-essential times. This should allow us to complete the changes without impacting your day-to-day business. The complete process should take a few hours, start to finish, but the intent is to have as limited impact as possible to your site.
Schedule
These changes are aligned to impact your account on Journey on:
- Start Time:
- Saturday, September 12th, 2026 @ 10:00 PM Eastern
- End Time
- Sunday, September 13th, 2026 @ 2:00 AM Eastern
- Completion Window
- Four (4) Hours from Start to Finish (including updates to DNS managed through Virtual Hosting Company)
- Downtime Impact
- Downtime is expected to be less than 5 minutes on a per-site basis; however, due to the nature of the move, we are advising that up to four (4) hours of downtime may be seen.
How To Prepare
To prepare for this move, we're asking that clients complete any active changes to your website ahead of the scheduled window above. Our team will be doing a 'Total Server Push', meaning everything on the server at the time of the move is going to be directly written over to the new server. However, if there is active development during this time, those changes may become corrupt or require additional work on your part. As such, we're requesting that you pause all development on the site during this window to avoid any duplicate work being required. If you have any active advertisement campaigns, be advised that we'll do our best to limit impact to your running advertisements. We've made changes to DNS entries to expedite the process, ahead of time, to ensure that our changes are applied as quickly as possible, and that the move completes timely. If you are expecting a significant number of e-mails during this time, please respond to this e-mail. We've established a mail-hold system to handle inbound mail at a non-impacted location temporarily, allowing inbound ail to pause and hold while the move completes, then finish routing after everything is done.
